Thank you to all who entered the Dunedin HG athletics. Bari, who usually runs the Heavy Games, had to back out this year in order to focus her attention to other matters. I was appointed athletic chairperson, mostly because I didn't have the presence of mind to duck when they asked for volunteers. This is my first year being in charge of anything like a heavy athletics event, and it has been a learning experience. Thanks to all who helped me find my way through this, expecially Kevin Dupuis, without whose help I would have been hopelessly lost.
As most of you know, Dunedin always has to deal with a very small thowing field, and the athletes have to give up use of the field for about two hours in the middle of the day. For this reason, I was directed by the HG committee to limit the number of throwers to forty. Being the new-guy-on-the-block, I wasn't able to give much input on that decision. This automatically dictated that I would have at most, four flights. Because Dunedin has a history of being a Florida Masters Championship of sorts, I decided to give most of this number to the masters. Sadly, this meant we couldn't have a women's division this year. I hope to correct/modify that next year.
I believe the last list Kevin has on the other Dunedin HG post is pretty accurate. I have copied that list below. There have been a few last minute changes since then, but I have spoken to or written these people personally to let them know they are on the thrower's list. If anyone has any questions please call me at 727-421-8459 or post to me either on this site or at bigrwallace@yahoo.com.
Incidentally, I promised Kevin that no one would ask him any questions on Games Day regarding games or equipment or tickets or anything else so that he could devote his attention to his family that day, so as a personal favor, I ask that you direct any questions to either me or Mitch, who will be the AD. I understand it is permitted to ask Kevin if he would like to share a beer after the games.
As far as games day goes:
There will be two fields, the main one and a stantion field which will be located between the city pool and the main field. This seperate field was created so that the athletes could, if desired, continue to throw after lunch without waiting two hours for the main field to open. The fence next to the stantions will be open in the morning to allow clan members (and athletes) to bring in their equipment. This is probably the best way for athletes to get into the games. This fence will be closed around 0830, but since the competition starts at 0830, everyone should already be present by then. Check in will be at the newly-built gazebo at the south end of the main field. No personal tents will be allowed, but we will have use of the gazebo. Please bring a chair if you wish.
Every athlete will receive one ticket for entrance to the games. I am sorry to say I was not able to aquire enough tickets to allow family members any complimentary tickets. To receive your ticket. Come see me in the morning. I will be near the stantions area until about 0830 when the fence to that area will be closed. If you are any later than that, go to the main gate and tell them you are an athlete. Parking this year is free.
Finally, at the registration table you will see a pile of questionaires asking the athletes comments on how to improve the games for them. Please take a minute to fill these out so I can have some feedback to present during next years HG committee meetings. I would love to be able to have a women's division as well as a few other ammenities next year. If you give me the ammunition, I will fight for you.
Thanks again, I will see you at the games. contact me if you have any questions. The list is below.
Sincerely,
Richard Wallace

Just wanted to wish every one good luck. Very dissappointed I can't throw. Was really looking forward to it. May all of you throw far and toss high. And may power and strength flow from every one.

Thank You Rich for stepping up for the Dunedin Games. I will be there as the Field A.D and trying to make everything run smoothly. As Rich says either he or I should be the person to ask any questions. Please be ther by 8 so we can get your registered and you have time to warm up before the throwing starts @8:30. We have to start early because we will denied access to the field for long periods of time, as well as being interupted a number of times for sheepherding demos etc. Please bear with me as I will try to extract every second we can be on the field..2 years ago I almost got in a fight with the dogman who didn't understand the athletes didn't stop right in the middle of their throws so the sheep could come on the field. He didn't understand some of you animals'attraction to the sheep either...lol
Look forward to seeing every one Mitch

I am not looking forward to waking up at 0 Dark 30 to get there by 8:00, but it is going to be worth it, so I wil just have to suck it up and go to bed early tonight! Everyone drive safe, & I can't wait to see you guys tomorrow!

PS: We are in the 24 hour zone, so make sure you are drinking lots of water.
